Today I had a big awareness of my surroundings! As I was looking through cards at Walgreens in Bellaire, I found that I was hanging around just to listen to the music- I was hearing old hits from the 60's...One Summer Night...Frankie Avalon...and many others. It was enchanting- instead of rushing in and out the music slowed me down. I connected to a different time and place- just listening to that music...old school....by just being aware...and present. That was my gift today...awareness...not missing the moment...and allowing it to just slow me down....

The Journal of Journaling Through

Journal Entry: Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Today was special- all about memories! It felt like one of those magical days...when everything just clicks! I got to go to New Braunfels and give a talk at the Seekatz Opera House for the New Braunfels Library Book and Author Luncheon . The last time I went to New Braunfels was with my family, to ride the famous rapids on the beautiful Gaudelupe. The first time I ever went to New Braunfels was with my parents, the family I came from- at least a million years ago- for the same reason- to ride the famous rapids! This time was different, but it helped me reconnect with those precious memories.

I met tons of interesting people at the luncheon- no blueprints here! People didn't just buy books- they told you their story. I also had one other big nugget that day- Katherine Center, author of Get Lucky, introduced me. I have known Katherine most of her life. She is just simply an amazing young woman with talent oozing out of her bones. Getting to reconnect with happy memories, talk about my passion- journaling....and stop for ice cream (my favorite thing) on the way home with Katherine- made another amazing memory- life doesn't get any better than that.

Is the Unknown Beckoning You ?

Why did this happen to me ? This is the question I hear daily - the riveting question that confronts each of us as we step into a journey that is new, scary and unfamiliar. It is what I call the journey into the Unknown. Each time we experience a change or loss we embark on the journey into the unknown. The change can be a divorce, death, job change, move or health issue. The unknown calls on the boldest aspect of our being to enable us to move through our current difficult situation.

This last week I gave the keynote speech at the Cancer Counseling Conference. I was reminded once again that loss and change connect all of us along this journey into the Unknown. I was reminded of the time when I was trying to navigate the stromy water after my husband's death, and how I looked for tools to help me sort through the overwhelming feelings that seemed to flood my emotional body. I no longer had a reliable roadmap. But, once I discovered a way to break my situation into managable pieces, I could begin to walk slowly on my path in a new meaningful way. I no longer felt frozen. My thought, "I will never get through this" no longer looked so big and scary.

Applying some simple tools helped me look at my situation through a different lens. Through the years I have passed these tools on to other fellow travelers, embarking on a similar journey. I discuss these toools in my new book, Journaling Through, as Tools for Transformation.

Journaling and answering the questions associated with these three key points can help you break your situation into managable pieces as you navigate the road into the unknown in a new way. I invite you to use this method for support as change challenges you to dig deeper to find your answers within.

1. Identification of a Situation: Tell your story! identify the situation, the emotions attached to the situation and the changes that have come inot your life because of the situation. Write about the other losses or changes that this situation has brought up for you.
2. Integration Reformation of the Situation: What do I have left in my life? What connections support me? What beliefs or behaviors is this situation challenging me to explore in myself or others? How has my environment changed? How can I be in the present- not on rote? What pieces of my life can move forward with me- and support me?
3. Reconstruction/ Metamorphosis/Transformationof the Situation: What has shifted in my beliefs, perceptions or consciousness as a result of this situation? How will my life be different going forward because of this situation? How has my spirituality been affected? How can I join with the transformational power of the mystical presence of God?

Remember.....The unknown is the gap- the past is already behind, and the future has not yet happened. The unknown path is the great opportunity to break free of past limiting thoughts, condititons, and beliefs allowing the unrestricted self to let go and Break Free.....

The Interconnection of All Things

This weekend I was in Monterey California visiting my daughter and her family. Being in the midst of nature at every moment I became inspired by the feelings of abundance, energy and harmony that nature awakened in me.

As I wandered through the amazing seahorse exhibit at the famous Aquarium, I was reminded of the precise delicate balance and connection of all things. Whether it is life in the sea or life on the land - every small cell that is created hinges on the next- the grand interdependency of all things - Oneness.

My thoughts floated to the relationship between humans and nature. Daily we are offered an opportunity to explore these connections to give us pure answers to our questions - answers that are not yet predetermined by the ideas of others.

As we search for authenticity and clarity we approach life as a series of questions, and co-create answers with our observation, experiences and words. This creative interchange allows existing answers to become clear as words bubble forth from the spirit within.

As you observe nature, think carefully of the words nature inspires in you, as you listen to the whisper of the spirit within - remembering your connections, and who you are. These connections ignite the seed of understanding your purpose and living a life that calls us to be in integrity with our speech. As we keep our word- with our words. Today, find your own answers and words - through journaling and nature.

Simply Finding My Voice

My tall glass of lemon water sits on the table within easy reach. I grab my pen and journal. Simple. That is all I need. Today its all about me. I look out the window. I realize that everything I need to find the answer is contained inside of me. The things I observe, the plants in bloom, a friends smile or tears, the sound of the birds - these all trigger the next thought, the next words that will spill out onto the pages. Some I will share with the world, some I will not. I have the power to choose - a powerful feeling. Clarity is emerging out of the chaos as the rambling thoughts begin to take form. Ideas and thoughts that are trying to speak, only to me.

I sip my cool lemon water - I hear the birds - more words spill out onto the once blank journal pages. I smile because from somewhere deep within the words are resonating as my truth. This clarity is giving voice to the deluge of thoughts that were overwhelming me. The solution - it was there all along - I simply had to be still, to write, and find it.

FOLLOW THE BUBBLES.......

FOLLOW THE BUBBLES…..

I heard an interesting story this week. It was a story about a man who was free diving into the water, going down deeply, doing what he needed to do, and coming back up, taking a big deep breath, and diving again. After one deep dive down he was pushing back up toward the surface of the water, toward the light, thinking he was coming up, but things got darker instead of lighter. He could not find the surface of the water. He had always used the light as a beacon, a guide to come to the top of the water.
As a small bit of air escaped his mouth some bubbles came out. But, instead of going up the bubbles went down, the opposite direction of the light. He was quickly running out of breath, so he had to decide whether to follow the bubbles or to follow the light. He was confused, his rational mind said to go toward the light, but his gut said to follow the bubbles. He went toward the bubbles and his life was saved. He followed his gut, his intuition.
Journaling is a little like being in a pool of water. As we write our thoughts are bubbling up and cascading onto the pages that unfold in front of us, allowing us to unlock the information stored deep inside. These bubbles live as thoughts within us and sometimes defy what people see on the outside, the external.
In your journaling this week open to the inner dimension of yourself. Reflect carefully on the thoughts that are bubbling up. As you journal take the time to discern the thoughts that reflect the real you- the authentic you. Look at the words on the page and allow your- self to let go of anything that is not your truth. It is not possible to be authentic until the inside truth is acknowledged. Follow the bubbles…..

Listening to the Music Within

What recently happened to the whole world when they heard the amazing voice on the u-tube of Britian’s Susan Boyle? Few people have watched that video without feeling emotional. There was an epiphany as her voice touched and stirred something very deep within each one of us- helping us recall and remember the beautiful song inside of our-self.
As a soul coming into the planet we are all born with certain gifts. In order to develop these gifts we have to go inside of ourselves to “remember”. Journaling is one of the ways to go within and sort through our path to bring light and meaning to our experiences.
Take the time today to focus and write about just one experience, whether that experience is positive or negative, and listen to the messages it brings. We all have a beautiful song within……listen and remember as you journal to find the voice inside of you that needs to sing.
